Visions and dreams

We have this account in Daniel 2 where Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. Daniel explains to the King that no wise man, enchanter, magician, or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he had asked about. No one but the God in heaven.

Today while I was taking a nap I had a dream. Weird one. I usually don't these things seriously, but today when I woke up I felt like something was important about it. Let me explain what the dream was. I had traveled to Pennsylvania to vote on a significant law. Why PA, no clue. The vote was about life beginning at conception. I was motivated, passionate, and full speed ahead. I was focused. I was on a mission.

I was following the masses to get my paper and make my vote count! I passed by a young boy who was wearing a Virginia Tech hat sitting on the sidelines watching the masses pass. Here was our conversation.

"Follow your heart!"

"No, follow the one who lives there."

"What does that mean?"

"I'm talking about Jesus."

"Whose that?"

I was so focused on getting to my destination that I told him that I would be back to talk to him after I voted. I followed the crowds. Turn after turn after twist. Finally, I had my paper. I was going to make my voice heard. I was doing something important. Or was I?

This morning at church the Pastor spoke about how we focus on the destination and not the journey. As I worked on getting up from my nap, I felt horrible. Guilt. Regret. Sadness. Why?

I was so focused on my destination that I wasn't enjoying the journey. I had an opportunity to lead this young man to a relationship with Christ and I didn't. I missed the greater opportunity. Not saying that the vote wasn't important. But the moment of talking with this person was the greater moment.

When I sat down and tried to talk it out with God, the results were shocking. Not only did I miss the journey and greater opportunity, but I also missed something much bigger. God was talking to me about how we can't change the nation until we change individuals. And we can't change individuals until we change ourselves!

In 2019 I hope that you are able to change the things God is asking you to so that you are able to change the lives of others. And you are able to change others to impact your community. Happy 2019 guys.
