We all have habits. We have addictions or flaws that we aren't willing to get rid of. Or just aren't wanting to. We have hidden secrets that we don't tell our friends. We have cycles that we watch ourselves walk through all the time. I don't care if it's something as small as smoking a cigarette once a month with your uncle when he is in town or talking to an old flame that you can't let go of.
Let me tell you that when you are in the cycle it feels good. It's like your favorite t-shirt that you can't get rid of. It's like home. Your 'dirty little secret'. Or your 'everyone knows that I do this and I don't care' secret. I don't know what it is for you. But I know that I have them. And I know what it's like when the cycle breaks.
Something pushes you to get off the merry go round of insanity. Finally, you hear something or see something. Whatever it is. EMBRACE IT! Freedom is just outside of the ride. Have you ever been in a pool? A circle pool. When you get 5-6 people walking the same direction and cause the pool to create a current. Where you can pull your legs up and just float because the momentum of the water carries you? I have. Many times. It's one of my favorite things to do. Especially when I was pregnant. If you go with the current too much when you try to get out of the pool it can drag you under. Yes, We've had them go that strong. Our family is weird.
The great thing is that it only takes one person willing to go the opposite direction to stop it enough so you can get out. It's not easy when 5 other people are pushing against you but it's possible. You just have to be willing. If you are looking for a way out of your current cycle, pray about it. Stepping outside of your comfort isn't easy and it sure isn't fun. But so worth it.
When you have that feeling of peace and you know that you've done the right thing, for once, you can't describe it. I'm praying for you today as you try to break a cycle that you've been dealing with. Hopefully, you find the peace that's outside of the chaos. Because once you step out of the cycle you realize how stupid it was.
