This afternoon I mowed my backyard. Yeah, you might think that's not a huge deal. For me it is. My backyard is a terrible inclined plain of dips and ankle twisting pleasures. It took me just under an hour. Before you start getting all "female" on me. My husband is injured. I would rather him rest his leg, which he can not bend, than injure himself more and be out of work. Plus he works 12 hours and I work 6. We do things for each other. This household isn't sexiest in any way shape or form. So *raspberry*.
As the wind was blowing gently in my blood shot red face, which was covered in grass from clippings, God showed me something. When I got home today I didn't want to mow. I hate mowing. Mainly the backyard. But I saw a need. The yard needed mowed. So I did it. Not because I want glory or notification, but because sometimes we do things we don't particually like to help out others.
As a christian I see less and less of this in the church. There are needs that need to be filled and we need to start stepping up and filling those needs. Someone needs dinner made for them because they just recently had a baby. Do it. Don't play the "someone else will do it" game. Just do it. You never know what happens behind the scene. Let me show you an example.
Vacation Bible School. The highlight of some kids summer. Not to mention a few hours of child free life for parents. BUT you don't see the blood that goes into that event. Months before this event planning takes place. Ordering art supplies. Re-writting some of the material. Re-working some of the snacks because of allergy issues. Picking out new music because the other music sucks. Then putting out that piece of paper that says "volunteer for VBS" and experiencing the disappointing sight of no names.
Week after week. No help. You put your heart into this event and no support at all. You sit and wonder why you even bother. There is so much that we don't see. There is so many events, so many hurtting people, so many opportunities that we pass by. We have to start opening our eyes. We have to start listening to God's voice and being obedient. Stop playing the "someone else will do it game." Pick up the slack where others drop the ball. You can do it. I believe in you!!
