How far are you willing to go......

Yesterday I read an article that broke my heart, broke my spirit, and completely shattered my childhood. Literally. Of course, I should remember that I can't put people on a tower of greatness. Everyone fails. Everyone has flaws. This is why being a leader is so difficult. You are held to a higher standard. You are held accountable for YOUR decisions for YOUR flock. That doesn't mean that you can't take a stand!

You know the old saying, "If (insert name here) jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?" I say it all the time to the kids. One kid gets on the bed and jumps off of it, the other one usually tends to follow. We have times where we follow blindly. We have times when we don't think for ourselves because we get comfortable. We have to constantly be looking for answers for ourselves.

I worked for an establishment and they asked me to do something that was against my belief system. I went against the grain. They didn't make it easy on me. I walked out. Called the person who owned the buisness and let him know what I thought. They offered me my job back. I was forced to sign papers for things that didn't happen. I was moved into another position I didn't want. At the end of the night, I closed out my section, walked up front, and said "I'm done." I left. No two weeks notice. No 'good partings'. No niceness. Just a mic drop and walk out.

It haunted me for years. I applied for jobs and the manager would trash talk my name and kept me from getting a job for more than 3 years. BUT here's the kicker. Those people who lied and went along with the lie that was told will be held accountable for that. If I would have gone along with it, I would be too. But, I went against what everyone else was doing because I knew that was right. I didn't jump off the bridge with the rest of them.

When you are a part of ANYTHING. You have to make sure that you understand their heart. Their intentions. Their motives. Don't follow blindly. Test everything. Don't assume. Seek answers. Be that annoying person. Be willing to go against the grain. How far are you willing to go to find answers.

Don't get comfortable.
