Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. It's been slightly hectic around our house. Anyway, moving onward. The last few days God has been dealing with me about forgiveness. A few years ago I read a status that floored me, because it came from someone who claimed to be a Christian.
"I will never forgive that person for what they did to me. There is nothing anyone can say or do to change my mind. I will forever hate her, and never forgive her."
Harsh I know. This woman experienced a HUGE situation that I have to agree would be hard to forgive someone for. I can agree that she would harbor hurt in her heart. But I also know what God's word tells us about forgiveness. There is endless amounts of scriptures about forgiveness.
Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks for forgiveness, you must forgive. - Luke 17:4 NLT
Notice that it doesn't say the severity of the sin. That's because it doesn't matter. If someone wrongs you, and asks for forgiveness we are told to forgive. It's an act of obedience. You have the choice to forgive or not to forgive, that's up to you. And if the person doesn't ask for forgiveness it's probably because they don't even know that what they did effected you the way they did. That doesn't get you off the hook either. IF you think that you don't have to forgive someone check this scripture out.
But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. - Matthew 6:15
Could you imagine getting to heaven and facing judgement and hearing that everything looked great BUT you didn't forgive Billy for taking your four wheeler and crashing it into a tree. Therefore all the sins you committed were to be judged. Then you hear a list of all your sins that will keep you from getting into heaven.
I don't know about you but that sounds crappy to me. God didn't say that forgiving someone would be easy, but totally worth it. I hope that one day my friend will find it in her heart to forgive this woman who wronged her for her souls sake. My prayer for you today is that any unforgiveness that you have in your heart you would be able to let it go.
