I haven't read the book yet BUT have a good idea what it is about. It's about people who, like myself, volunteer for anything and everything. I want to be helpful and completely wear myself thin. Minnie was doing that this morning. It was her birthday or something like that and she showed up to the clubhouse and was met with a list of "can you" questions.
Minnie can you watch my frog, wax my rubber ducks, decorate and clean the house, decorate the cupcakes, fix the castle, string and tune a ukulele. She said yes to all of them. She worked all day on this endless list of demands. She began to get tired and feel asleep. She overworked herself. She began dreaming. She had a a wonderful song about having helping hands.
Here's the kicker, she should have thought about how much work she had volunteered herself for before she became overwhelmed. I know that I love helping where ever I can but sometimes you HAVE to say NO. And it's okay to say NO. You have to look out for your best interest so that you can do YOUR very best at the things that God has you called to do.
Don't volunteer for something if you know that it isn't in the path God wants you to go. Because then you could be getting yourself a situation where you are drawn into the wrong direction. You could be hindering things God wants you to do. Just by being disobedient and doing to much of things that you aren't supposed to be doing. Make sure when a situation arises that you pray about it before you just write your name down. Not only will you put yourself in a situation where you are wearing yourself thin BUT you may end up letting people down who rely on your assistance.
MAKE SURE YOU PRAY BEFORE YOU VOLUNTEER FOR ANYTHING. And make sure if God is calling you to do it that you do it. Nothing in this world is worse than being disobedient to what God is calling you to do. Remember that. HAPPY WEEKEND!!!
