Childlike VS Childish

I started watching Little Big Shots yesterday and got up this morning and decided to finish it up. If you haven't watched it, you should try to catch it. To see these kids, is EXTREMELY refreshing. Not because they are talented, because they are very talented. But because it's really nice to see parents who invest in their children's passion at such a young age. YouTube has made it very easy for people to be "discovered" or to express their own opinion.

These children, along with thousand of others, are just complete blessings. They have found something they love, gone all out, and become what they want. As children they have all faith. They go all out and if they fail it's no big deal. Children have this amazing "non block" in their mind. They have a mind that has no limits. They have this ridiculous ability to be dare devils. They climb, jump, propel, and just about anything else.

If you've been around children you know exactly what I'm talking about. Joseph, even at 5 months, is trying to roll off the couch and changing table. Not to mention the johnny jump up swinging into the door frame. It's going to be a crazy run with him, especially being a part of his dads gene pool. But I think there is a deeper lesson here other than kids are insanely ballsy.

Matthew 18:2-4 says this.
Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

You know the song Jesus loves the little children I'm sure. It possibly rooted from this scripture. He does love the little children. Not just the small ones in age, but all of us. The scripture tells us that if we don't become like little children we will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I think there is more depth to this than what you may think.

Children have no fear. Like mentioned before, they attack situations fearlessly. A little one I watch gets scratches and bumps constantly from climbing a tree, but refuses to not do it. Children, some children, have a hard time lying. You can tell when they lie. The way they look at you gives it all away. We know that lying to God isn't worth it because he knows everything anyway. Just like kids KNOW that their parents can tell when they are lying, but they do it anyway. Kids are willing to help. One of the sisters that I watch is constantly trying to do things to help. She wants to do everything the adults do and her older sister. BUT some things she can't do because of safety. Yet she still tries to do them. We are constantly trying to do things to help and a lot of times we get in our own way. We don't want to listen to God because He tells us no.

Humble. Humble means to show little estimate of one's importance. I think that being humble is best shown in the story of Jesus washing the disciples feet. This was a HUGE deal. Washing feet was something the lowest people did. Jesus was willing to lower himself to wash the feet of those he loved. We have to do that for ourselves. We have to be willing to do things for people that treat us with disrespect. It's never an easy thing to do but children do that. People who hurt their feelings, they continue to love.

We have to spend more time being childlike. Stepping into the role, embracing it. Take today and try to do that. Step into the role of a child, not being childish but childlike. Go all out like the children on Little Big Shots.
