Jungle Book.

One of my favorite Disney movies. You will probably hear me say that a lot because, I do love the original greatness of a Disney movie filled with musical numbers. Of course, I could go back now and see so many things that I didn't catch before, but for the sake of digging out that classic VHS player, I'll read the plot on Wiki.

I will do my best to slam the whole movie into a quick description. I can't make any promises of it's shortness. Mowgli (Orphan boy) was found by Bagheera (Black Panther) and took him to a pack of wolves to be raised. The tribe, 10 years later, finds out that Shere Kan (Bengal Tiger) has returned to the forest. They no longer believe it's safe for Mowgli to live in the forest and try to convince him to go to the man-village. Bagheera escorts him and they run into a situation with a hungry python named Kaa, who tried to eat Mowgli but failed. Mowgli tried to join a group of elephants and fails leading to an argument with Bagheera. This leads to a separation, followed by a friendship with a bear named Baloo. Baloo promises to keep Mowgli in the jungle and never take him to the man village. Mowgli is kidnapped by a group of monkey's who take him to their leader, King Louie. The king wants to learn the secret of man's red fire, but Mowgli wasn't raised by humans so had NO idea what that was. Mowgli is saved by Bagheera and Baloo who have had a conversation about the jungle not being safe anymore. Baloo tries to have a talk with Mowgli about going to the man village BUT it doesn't go over well. Mowgli get's angry and again runs away. As everyone is looking for him, Shere Kan catches word that he is wondering alone in the jungle. Mowgli has encountered Kaa again, but is smart enough to get away from his evil schemes. Shere Kan finds Mowgli in the midst of a storm where there is a huge strong evil tiger facing a scared little boy when lightening strikes. Fire catches on a tree and with the help of some friends, Mowgli scares Shere Kan, who is terrified of fire, and eventually gets to the man-village.

So often in our life we want to remain in the "jungle" representing our comfort zone. We feel so strongly about it that we actually fight all things standing in our way. Mowgli was born into his comfort zone, raised by wolves, and comfortable with his surroundings. Bagheera, loosely representing the Holy Spirit, is our guide. Through the whole movie we see Bagheera trying to protect Mowgli despite his repeated attempts to remain in the jungle. He knew it wasn't safe, but also knew that Mowgli had free will. We don't give a lot of credit to Bagheera because he endures all these obstacles keeping Mowgli from being harmed. Not to mention saving him multiple times. Yet he still wants Mowgli to be safe at the end of the day.

Kaa representing the ways of the world. Kaa is a snake. He twisssts his words to make them sound delightful when we all know that he is up to no good. Mowgli, the second encounter, is alone. Although Bagheera isn't with him physically, it doesn't mean he isn't 'with him'. Get my drift there. Kaa uses every trick in the bag to try to hypnotize Mowgli and eat him. If we spend so much time in the world with our friends who aren't going to lead us in the right direction, we will get swallowed up.

Baloo is that group of friends that swear they are going to protect you from all harm. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Those people who don't ever push you to better yourself or say, "It's okay it's just this one time." I know you have heard those words before. Let me say this, if you aren't around a group of people who are going to encourage you to try hard things in life, they aren't worth being friends. Your friends should push you into greatness. Not hold you down in your comfort zone. Eventually Baloo see's that the best thing for Mowgli is living in the man-village, AFTER he is talked to by the Bagheera. There is a chance that your friends could become saved and then become a help instead of a hurt.

King Louie, what a character, represents those people that are convinced just because you are a Christian that you know everything about God. You know who I'm talking about. Those friends who want to fight with you constantly and when you don't have an answer they throw it in your face. Mowgli knew nothing about fire. We don't know everything about God. It's a fact. We will never know everything there is to know about God. He is endless. As hard as King Louie pushed, Mowgli probably felt trapped. It was like a police interrogation. Those people aren't a benefit in your life and will just leave you frustrated and feeling defeated. They are like talking to a brick wall, they don't want to listen and never will.

Eventually, you may get to the point where you are finished dealing with the pushing from the Holy Spirit and will go at it alone. That's when Shere Kan, Satan, makes his move. Mowgli was completely alone wondering the jungle while Shere Kan awaited him to walk into his grasp. Imagine the fear running through Mowgli's veins as a man eating tiger approached him. We can feel hopeless in times when we are cornered by Satan and his strength. Even though Bagheera wasn't anywhere to be seen, God still saved Mowgli by striking lightening and providing Mowgli with something to scare Shere Kan away. God always provides us with a great defense against the schemes of Satan. It's called, Jesus. When we use the name of Jesus against Satan, he shutters.

Eventually Mowgli ends up at the man village. Eventually we end up out of our comfort zone. It doesn't matter what we do, how hard we fight, how much the world pushes us, our friends hold us back, or what we do ourselves. God will win. We will end up being pushed out of our comfort zone and into the world of the unknown. Trust me, you can fight me all you want. I mean, look at Mowgli. He didn't want to go to the man village. And where does the he end up at the end of the movie? Yup, in the man village. And that's where you will end up, OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!
