This. Guard your heart. Proverbs 4:23 is the scripture I keep going back to. It puts a whole new perspective about the wonderful John Christ hashtag 'check your heart.'
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
On Monday I watched a free webinar from Rick Pino about the theory of worship. He is a worship coach and has a program where you can take classes from him. Worship U has the same type program. I had a free session with Rick and took advantage of it to attempt to broaden my knowledge of worship. I know how to engage myself but getting a group of people to understand worship, whole different ball game. Another blog for another day though.
As Rick was teaching something he said hit me hard. (Not verbatim but a generalized statement of what was said.) 'Our heart has a throne on it. Whatever we put on that throne is taking precedence above God. This would be what our focus is.' When we come into worship on a Sunday morning many people think of it being for different reasons. Some people think that we do it because we have done it that way for years. 3 songs and then we are done. But its more. (Again another blog for another day)
God is worthy of our praise and deserves it. He doesn't NEED it but he DESERVES it. When we come into church on a Sunday morning and we don't take the time to give him the praise he deserves, we are actually robbing ourselves. *See how that blog for another day keeps creeping in here.* We have to make sure that God is on the throne of our heart when we go into an attitude of worship. Or we aren't really worshiping him.
**Singing** Let the king of my heart, **Thinking** Man did I pay the electric this week. Oh shoot, we forgot Lulu's appointment for her Medcheck. Ugh this week I have to go out of town for a business meeting. **Singing** You are good. **Thinking** Man dinner was good last night.
You see, if we aren't giving our all and all to God and have other things on our minds, we really aren't doing it right. Now of course, as a person on the platform I can't look at you and know you aren't in an attitude of worship because each person is different. Some people raise their hands, some don't. I'm an outward worshiper, Justin isn't.
Basically this rabbit trail of many blog ideas boils down to this. When you go into worship time today, of whenever, make sure to take everything off your plate for the day. Every distraction and focus fully on God. Give him the praise that he deserves. Place him on the throne of your heart and don't look back.
