Growing in the rain

My mom purchased a play set for Joseph. We spent a good 3 hours working on it one night a few weeks ago. 2 If I'm thinking correctly. It was 9PM and we decided that we would get around to it the next day. During our journey to the non-ending project, we encountered a spring shower. Mostly annoyed, we continued working with determination to get done. We didn't. We picked up our things and placed them in front of the house. After an overwhelming week, we finally hit a day where we could work on it. God had other plans.

As Tsunami May went through the valley, we didn't stand a chance of getting anything accomplished with our son's playset. For a week solid there was rain. Not to mention the fact that we hadn't mowed our grass. Yesterday, we set out on a mission to mow the front yard and lay down plastic to continue the building of the playset. As I picked up the pieces of the 'dismembered' cedar I looked at the grass. Mostly dead from the rain and being covered up, I noticed something.

A blade of grass pushing its way through the boards to get to the sunlight. Which we hadn't seen in 7 days. It was frail. Discolored. And pretty gross looking. As always, God was showing me something interesting. This grass was among the dead and black grass. You would think that nothing could grow in these conditions. No sunlight and massive water, but it grew.

I'll save the analogies of "be a growing blade of grass amongst dead things" for another day. Because that's not what I want to share with you this morning. I want you to know that YOU, yes you, can be going through a part of your life where it is a hard time after a hard time after a hard time and still experience growth. Yes, you might come up looking a hot mess or frail. BUT GROWTH IS GROWTH!
