I think a phrase I can use here is, "A body at rest tends to remain at rest." Newtons Law ladies and gentlemen. I could have stayed in that shower for a long time. I just had to take that first 'jump' to the fridged cold room and get in bed. Let me say something that might convict you or make you mad. A spirit in complacency tends to remain in complacency. It's easy to see the comfortable spiritual life that we lead and continue on with it. Barly inching towards any goal of our own, much less God's will for our life.
I have heard a speaker put it this way. "You have to jump. Either God is going to catch you or teach you how to fly. But you HAVE TO JUMP!" We spend so much time in the comfortable warm shower that we aren't willing to jump into the cold room. COME ON! We have to be willing to embrace that initial shock. It's scary sometimes.
There are only 18 days left in 2017. I used to take this time to take inventory of my past year and look at what I wanted to do in the following year. Looking forward to things I wanted to change in the next year. I can see the finish line. It's so close. This year, I've decided to do something different. Yes, there are only 18 days left. And YES there is so much I hope for in 2018. BUT I want to see what I can accomplish with the remainder of my year. It's not a race to finish for me this year. It's a race to see what I can do!
I hope this changes your perspective on the end of the year a bit. Instead of me asking you what you hope to accomplish in 2018. I want to know something more. What do you want to accomplish with the remainder of 2017? Don't live the last 18 days in complacency. DO SOMETHING!
