Learn where you are

I continued reading in Jeremiah 1 this evening just to see what happened next. God is talking to Jeremiah and about the things around him. He says, "What do you see, Jeremiah?"

You know, God does this to me a lot. He makes a lesson out of the smallest situations. I'm the kind of person who is very observant. To the point where, as a kid, I would ask my mom if she noticed the girl on the second row at church wearing the green pants suit with the brown hair. She would have no idea what I was talking about. Not because my mom didn't pay attention, but because I was wired differently.

I see things and God uses those things as teaching moments in my life. Today as I was driving home from speech with Bug, she was going off on many rants. These things prompted me to respond, "Bug, there are a lot of things that happen in our life that we don't like but they are out of our control. They don't make sense to us right now and we don't know what God is doing. But we have to be patient and have faith that God knows what he's doing."

Seriously, let me just take a second to preach to myself. God took what Jeremiah saw and used it to show him something else. Like with Bug, God used the situation to show me something. She was angry over things that were out of her control. Lately I have been stressing about circumstances that are out of my control. These circumstances 'are what they are.' I have NO control over them and I have to accept them. Yet I still flip out about them. He took a conversation with a 7 year old girl, in attempts to calm her down, to really speak into my life.

Sometimes we don't like where we are. With our jobs, our walk with God, our family situation, whatever. But we are where we are to learn and to grow. Most of the time we have to look at our surrounding circumstances and learn what we need to learn. Example, I am in a season of transition. I'm transitioning from one ministry opportunity to another. I'm VERY confused about what God is instructing me to do BUT I know that he has a plan. It could be to learn new things to help me in a different season. It could be just to see if I am going to be obedient. It could be a number of things.

I don't know, but I'm learning where I am. Maybe it's just to trust God. Like Jeremiah, I'm just standing and telling God what I see. Wherever you are right now. In your house, at work, in bed, whatever. Take a second and tell God what you see, and see what God shows you with the circumstances that surround you.
