A few examples. I get on the scale every Wednesday and expect the numbers to be different, even though I have been doing NOTHING to change those numbers. I have someone I work with in ministry who is a stickler for things being in order correctly. Borderline perfectionist. I'm a very, "Go with the flow," kinda person so me expecting this individual to be loose with it is insane. Why? Because I've been doing that part of ministry for 12 years and I am comfortable with it. I have to work on teaching this person 'flow'.
I'm working with Lyla Grace this morning and it would be insane for me to think that teaching her is the same way I teach Callie Bug. Callie hates school work. Lyla loves it. I don't have to keep Lyla focused like I do Callie. We've gone over 6 pages in Lyla's workbook in about 10 minutes. She loves school. Callie has a difficult time keeping on track. It's INSANE to think that Lyla and Callie are the same in any way!
Keep all that in mind as I change gears slightly. Well, not slightly but it will all come together. Promise. Say that your significant other tells you on Monday that on Friday you are going to your favorite restaurant. You look forward to that all week. You haven't been there in a long time because of the price and you are just so busy. Friday comes. Your anticipation has been building all week. You get in the car, start driving to the restaurant, and find out they are closed. Not just for the night, BUT PERMANENTLY. Did that just completely shatter you? Would that situation make you upset?
Take these two things I've talked about and smash them together to make a sandwich. You might think, Deborah... you are losing your mind. Let me throw in another factor. Worship. Confused yet? Good.
When you go to church on Sunday, what is the point of worship for you? For me, it's to feel God move. I go into the building pushing for God to show up. I have GREAT anticipation. It's insane for me to think that everyone else is that way too. Because everyone is not the same. I also THINK that it's insane to go into a worship experience and not expect anything. Worship is so much more than just saying words. Worship is so much more than 2-3 songs on a Sunday Morning.
I'll be doing some searching on worship this week. I've done some previous searches on worship. But what I want to challenge you with today is to take ONE SONG and listen to the lyrics. Really really listen to the lyrics. Make it your prayer. Push through it. Or at least try. Make the song something more than a song to you. Right now, mine is Resurrecting by Elevation. Pick a song that would reflect the season that you are in.
And on Sunday when you go to church. Don't be insane and just do what you always do. Use some ANTICIPATION.
