Whose your daddy?

I apologize for the few days of silence for those of you who read this on a constant basis. With certain 'new headliners' I have had to keep silent and not speak. I was raised to not say anything if I couldn't say anything nice. Plus the joys of being a mom to a 7 month old who wasn't sleeping through the night was taking a toil on my little "I need 8 hours or sleep" self.

I wanted to cover something this morning that is out of my box of goodies. I was going to 'tour' with my boyfriend at the time. He was an artist and I was a speaker. I would speak little tidbits and he would perform. We knew it was a legit thing because........ (dramatic pause) we had a myspace. (Throwback!) Anyway, I have lots of little talks I prepared and I'm going to go through them and revise them. Since they are outdated. Without further ado, here is Whose your daddy....

A few years ago, 14 to be exact, there was a release of this song that became very popular to the point we were all singing it. Despite my despise for country music I still catch myself humming the tune of "Whose your daddy" by Toby Keith. It was a popular saying at the time. We would even say it in spanish. With all that, I want to ask you a question. Quien Es tu padre? Whose your daddy?

Jump in your bible to John 8:44.

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do evil things he does. He was murdered from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (NLT)

What a way to smack someone in the face?! It's here that Jesus is talking to a group of people who are accusing him of being a demon and taking him for a ride on the crazy train. Jesus is telling them that he has brought them truth but they wouldn't even hear it because Satan was their father.

I listened to a sermon recently (Monday actually) about The God Who Hates. Let's just say it was extremely powerful because it is truth. One point that stands out to me aligning with this little nugget is that when people are living in sin, they will defend it. They will not call it like it is because they want to defend their actions.

In this portion of scripture you see these people listening to Jesus and trying to take things to literal. They were defending themselves saying, No our father was Abraham, are you crazy? Satan isn't our father. Then Jesus continued to tell them that they were children of the father of lies. They then pointed their fingers at Jesus saying, Hey, you must be demonic. They wanted to fight him with their words. It seems like they were trying to throw the blame back on Jesus, when he was spotless.

People who are living in sin are the same way. When you try to show them what they are doing and let them know that they are living in sin they throw it back in your face. They use the scripture against you. A loving God would never do that. God is love. He is forgiving. He loves his children. Who are you to judge me? Then you, in response, end up feeling like a terrible christian because you were judgmental towards this person who was living a life of sin.

Satan Wins. He knows the word of God and will use it against the people of God. And do you want to know why he CONTINUES to win? Because God's people don't know his word like they are supposed to. In this snippet I go and talk about how God had told Adam and Eve that they were to NOT eat the fruit of a specific tree. I followed how Satan twisted God's words. He drove Eve to doubt what God had said and second guess what she was told. Isn't it funny that Satan does that with all things. He twists Gods word to get the result that he wants? Isn't it like that with people defending their sinful ways?

Sin separates us from God. Later in John 8, Jesus tells them that because their father is the father of lies, they wouldn't believe the truth. They naturally believed that they were right. Satan had twisted their mindset to thinking that what they were doing was okay. So, when you are standing in the midst of people and you are trying to tell them the truth and they don't believe you. Remember WHOSE YOUR DADDY? And remember who you are dealing with! You aren't dealing with that person specifically. You are dealing with the Devil who has manipulated their mind to think that they are right and you are wrong.
