Let me sing the song of my people.

This morning at church, I was able to purchase a new book and I told myself that I wouldn't start it until I finished the Spiritual Gifts book. With that being said I have been digging in, for 10 minutes, on the last few pages of the overview of Speaking in Tongues. I'm going to give you the rundown then try to finish the final spiritual gift so I can start this new book.

I'm sure you guys have heard the phenomenon 'let me sing the song of my people.' I made the title of the blog that because we sing the song of the spirit. Play on word. Laugh. It's a joke. We can do that. Stop being so stuck in the traditional church. :)

Here we go!

This is a HUGE controversial gift. Not just in the church but in doctrines as well. According the Lester Sumrall, none of the gifts have left the church. They do become a huge controversial conversation piece with different denominations. The reason that Speaking in Tongues is the most misunderstood, and receives such an explosive reaction, is because the devil is afraid of it and wants everyone fighting about it. The reason that this gift is terrifying to Satan is because he cannot understand what our spirit is saying to God. He cannot interrupt it, it scares him.

A few things he gift of speaking in tongues is not. It is not the prayer language that comes with the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It is not the learning of a new language. Tongues is speech to God - a vocal miracle. A few things that tongues is. Tongues is the evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It is your prayer language. While speaking in tongues you magnify God. It edifies yourself (which shows that you are building up spiritual growth within you) It brings gladness in singing. Tongue is a source of intercessory prayer. A source of spiritual refreshing. Speaking and ministering to the Lord in tongues is somewhat like a repository of profit. 

If you are like me you see a slight contradiction in this paragraph. I said that it is NOT your prayer language and then turn around and say that it is. I will tell you that I was very confused by this and no I can't tell you why it it says that. All I can do is transfer what I have read to here so you can, for yourself, decide how you feel about what is being said. Remember that everything you read should be tested against the scriptures.

Some people say that tongues has ceased. This is simply not true. It will cease, but not until the end of the age. When the church is with God the gifts of the spirit will no longer be needed. I found this VERY interesting out of Commissioned with Power by Gordon Lindsay. As we all know, the great commission is like the final direction piece that Jesus leaves with us. If you look at the great commission in Mark 16:15-17 you see something interesting.

And He said to them, "Go into he world and preach the gospel to every creature, He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast our demons; they will speak with new tongues..."

The book tells us until some speak in tongues they cannot understand how it can be a blessing to them, or how they will be edified by it. But once they receive it, they find it a supernatural experience carrying with it a rich spiritual blessing. Some people will say, "If i is of God they why would it no come forth perfect and in full bloom all at once? They do not realize that just as a child learns to speak, so the first utterances of those who speak in tongues may be with "Stammering lips." Do not dear and do not quench the Spirit. 

Make sure you always test what you read and hear against the word of God. Pray about them and make sure you feel right in your Spirit about things. Again, this is out of the books that I am reading and not from my own wittle ol' brain.
