This morning I was watching "The Muppet Christmas Carol" with Joseph and got flooded with thoughts. I grabbed a piece of paper and had to actually watch the movie over again. I'll have a few days of blogs about this movie because there was so much I got I can't put it into just ONE blog. So, here is 1 of 4. Maybe 5.
So the story of the Christmas Carol. A man named Scrooge is cold hearted. Cruel. Selfish. Closed off to all people. He basically is only concerned about himself and no one else. He is terrible to his employees. Treats them with disrespect. Just a terrible individual. He was visited by 3 spirits over night to change him to be a delightful human being. He had 3 encounters with spirits that changed his view on life.
The way that Scrooge is described is like we are before we experience an encounter with God. The reason I say that is because once you have had a TRUE encounter with God you can't help but be happy. I say true encounter because lots of people have "little spurts". But once God gets in your life and completely touches those broken places and turns it all around. You just don't get it.
I'll be honest. I still don't know. Yes I'm a christian, I have believed in God all my life. But I have never been so broken that God was the only way that I could go on. This is why I'm on the path I'm on now. I'm getting ready to, eventually, have a major breakthrough in my own life. How do I know it's going to be huge? Because I'm struggling so hard. Satan is fighting me full throttle. I've had days that I succeed, I have days I fail. Does this mean that I'm not a Christian? Not by any means. But anyway, back to Scrooge.
Scrooge had these spirits visit him and assist him in this life changing decision that only HE could make. We have to be the ones to make the choice that we need a change and we need help. News flash, You can't do it alone. In the muppet christmas carol the man playing Scrooge sings "With a thankful heart that is wide awake, I do make this promise every breath I take. Will be used now to sing your praise." Once he experienced "the change" he couldn't help but want to praise God. EVEN A CHILDRENS MOVIE GETS IT!!!
Once you have that moment where everything changes, you cant keep it to yourself. You want to tell everyone about what happened. You can't keep yourself quiet, just like Scrooge. The people who knew him couldn't believe what he had experienced. They were floored by his transformation. You may have friends who can't believe the things that you go through. They may think that you are completely insane, but you know what happened to you. Other people won't understand it unless they experience it too.
When people are looking at you, while you are freaking out. Remember this..... You may be the ONLY Jesus someone actually experience in their life. If the spirits hadn't appeared to Scrooge, he wouldn't have experienced a change in his life. YOU might be the only chance someone has to meet Jesus! Why in the world keep that to yourself? Things to think about this week of Christmas!!
