The next thing on my ridiculous list of things I wish I would have known is:
Fighting your Destiny is like fighting a battle with no weapons.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has plans for us. Each of us have a specific calling. For some it could be preaching to the masses or speaking to multimillion dollar advisors. Some of us could be the person who shows love to someone who could be the next mass murderer and they have a change of heart. We don't know what our calling is the minute we become a christian. It's a process. The funny thing is that somethings the things we think will be our "calling" ends up being our stepping stone for the next chapter.
I always look back to the story of Jonah and the big fish. God told Jonah to go somewhere specific. He said go this direction, do this one thing. Jonah was like, ummmmm no sir. I'm going to pass on that. He runs the opposite direction, literally. Jonah was so terrified to go the direction that God was calling him that he got on a boat, and literally went the other direction. There was a storm, a terrible storm, to which he said, "You know what, this is my fault. I am disagreeing with God's path for me. Toss me over the side and the storm will stop." I seriously wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that conversation.
The storm stopped. He was swallowed by a fish. Yes I know that these stories seem outrageous, but walk with me a little further. After he finally bowed to God's will for his life he was released from the big fishes stomach. He ended up being right where he was supposed to be in the first place. Jonah was fighting a war with himself. His flesh (What he wanted to do against what he was called to do.) A lot of times when we get directions we don't want to do it and there is some resistance. We feel like there is a certain direction that we feel that we need to go and maybe that's not what God is calling you to do.
Take it from this chick, you're fighting a loosing battle. God's will WILL be done. You can resist, or fight, all you want. But at the end of the story. He wins. Don't be like Jonah. Be a quick obedient servant. You will save you a lot of frustration AND a lot of stinky days sitting in the belly of a fish!
