Vs 7 - You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
Lately I have been very interested in the exposing of false prophets. A pastor online accused a pastor I listen to as being a false prophet. I highly disagreed but wanted to check what the bible said about it. I googled false prophet and the first thing that popped up was biblegateway. I followed the link and started reading it and had my bible along side me. This is a mix of biblegateway.com and Deborah's impressive crazy little brain.
It said that Paul used the analogy about running a lot. I'm going to assume that he had some interesting in running. Do you know what runners have to do to train for a marathon? I don't. But I know that as a runner you have to have a HUGE amount of dedication to it. You have to spend a lot of time running, lifting, dieting. They have to have a large amount of focus. They have to be very disciplined to be able to run on their own, by themselves.
As a Christian, our walk has to be like that. It's a huge dedication. A life change. You spend a lot of time studying, reading, praying, living a lifestyle that you didn't before. You have to be able to fight battles that you didn't think you would have to before. There will be times that you will be doing something and you will be standing alone at the end of it because your friends think you are completely insane.
When a runner is running they have to be aware of their surroundings too. They have to be watching for other runners who are dirty and cut them off. People who will distract them from their focus of finishing the race strong. If someone were to cut them off it would probably tick them off just a little bit and possibly ruin the experience.
False Teachers are like that. They distract Christians from obeying the truth of the gospel. There is a lot of that going on right now in this day in age. I'm not going to give any specifics but there are a lot of pastors and churches bending the law to fit their agenda. They want to make everyone happy and aren't willing to tell them that something isn't right in fear that they will leave the church. Can you take ONE second and think about all the times that Jesus went against what was normal and comfortable? Did he just bend over and say, you know it's okay continue to sin. You can just ask for forgiveness.
What Paul is telling the Galatians is, "Hey go check your facts." Check the word of God and see if it lines up. If it doesn't.... You might wanna double check the source. Check their motives. Check if they are Cutting in on your focus. You really can't be to careful now a days.
