This past Sunday at church, we had a conversation that had my mind racing for hours. It was about our Gifting. Spiritually and Physically. The Pastor said that we needed to be using our gifting. Random statement that hit me really hard. I hate to confess, but I am not currently using any of my abilities to any of their potential. All this week I have heard in my head, "If you don't use it, you will lose it." It's very true with so many different things.
Going back to High School, I loved lifting. I just wanted to leg lift because that was my strong area. I remember my gym teacher telling me that you couldn't just do one lift each day. You had to work all areas of your body. Could you imagine a football player that only worked his legs and never worked his arms? How funny that would be.
We have to think about ourselves in the same way. We have to work all areas of our lives to make sure they are all strong. We can't just work our spiritual bodies and forget that our body is a temple and we have to keep it strong. We can't just work out all the time and forget that we have a spiritual part of us that needs to be strengthened. Lots of people may not understand what it means to actually work your spiritual body.
To grow spiritually we have to spend lots of time in our word. Knowing what God's word says will aid us when we are up against the enemies schemes and plans to make us fail. We are going to be tested in all areas of our lives, God's word tells us that. We shouldn't be surprised when we are faced with trials. There are ways you can stretch and grow without having to be faced with opposition.
The best example I can give to you is my own gifting that I have neglected for years and watched it almost disappear. Not only did I love lifting but I loved singing. After a teacher telling me that I would never amount to anything with singing, I quit. I used to be a high soprano and now I am an alto. Not only has my voice started to suffer in range but strength. I can't hold my notes as long as I could before.
Think about your gifting and make sure you are "exercising" those areas. As you struggle with your areas of stretching, know that I am struggling too. I am stretching too. I will be attempting to expand my knowledge in my word and working on my range in vocalizing. What are some things you are going to be working on this week?
